HELLO VISITORS!

Thank you for stopping by! I'm trying to find a cool system that'll allow me to post my stories without having the site become a giant mess. I'd like to avoid have html files for each entry, but it's taking me a while to figure out how I want that to be done. At the moment, all I have in working beta is what you're looking at right now--the viewing-terminal that my stories are going to be displayed with for the time being! I hope it's not too hard on the eyes. I tried to pick softer colors so your eyes don't bleed while you're reading, but I might have to change it in the future. There's too many different colors for my taste--instead of having pink, blue, and green, I'd rather just have different saturations of maybe two colors maximum. It'll be easier to look at that way :)

Anywho, since this is an about page, might as well talk a bit about myself and why I'm making this site!

To start off, hello, my name is Olivia, and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm 18, and I have a cool dog named DJ who chills out with me while I'm working on this site. When I'm not screwing around in html format, I'm playing video games, working, and sometimes both at the same time. Fortunately for me, my workplace involves my hobbies, which means that it doesn't suck as badly as it could. I work at a retro video game store in the mall, and, for the last fucking time, no one has the PS5 or Xbox Series X in stock. Since I work with a lot of old games, I get to spend the vast majority of my day cleaning cartridges and tearing down consoles, and, if someone sticks a quarter in an arcade cabinet that clearly says "tokens only," I get the honor of ripping that open as well. It's super fun, my coworkers are awesome, and people are assholes. I recently left my other job at a Hot Topic in the same mall, and even though I was sad to leave my discout behind, working with video games is truly a treat.

So, why the website? Well, I've been writing for as long as I could hold a pencil, and now I need a place to store my brain-children. And what better way to do that then to code an entire website on my own and give it a cool alien theme?! There's probably a ton, but I'm going to ignore them because I'm stubborn. In addition to wanting a place to post my stories that isn't wattpad, I also have a love for the old-web. Granted I was too young to experience the web during the early 2000's, but by the time the mid-2000's rolled around and I could maneuver a computer mouse, ohoho, it was game-over, buddy. I don't understand how the world-wide-web works, and honestly at this point I'm too afraid to ask, but I'll be dammed if I don't add my contribution to keeping the old-web alive.

For context, here is what the old-web means to me: absolute creative freedom and the ability to share that creativity of expression with millions at the click of a button. It's terrifying but exciting at the same time. What will these strangers think of me? How many people have read what I've put out there? In ten years, will people look back at this website and think "Hey, I remember this!" and reminisce fondly on what will eventually become the old days? Time is terrifying. But the internet is immortal!! Speaking of, I might post a detailed journal explaining my deep-dive into internet archives and how I found the original web page to the infamous fanfic "My Immortal." It truly is a tale for the ages.
